This page is intended as a guide for parents and carers who have a child that wishes to join the Explorers and to fill in any gaps not covered by the rest of the site. There are also answers to some frequently asked questions.
Fees The charge for Explorers is £50 per term which is payable at the start of each term. NB: Cheques should be made payable to Spartans esu (we have banking details if you would prefer to pay by BACS) Where does the money go?– Some of the fee goes to the Scout Association, Avon County and Axe District. – A part of the above is used for insurance. – Badges. – Equipment needed for Explorer Unit meetings. – Training – we also try to treat your Son/Daughter to a high value Activity once per term.
How do you communicate with my son/Daughter? As a leadership team we tend to use Facebook and Email as our preferred method of communication, we have also been known to use twitter, and occasionally we will send letters home.
Do we get paid? No, all members of the Scout Association are volunteers.
Can girls join the Explorers? Yes, all sections of Scouts are open to boys and girls. We have both boys and girls in the Spartans Explorer Unit.
So are you in competition with Guides? No, girls who join the Explorers would probably not be attracted to the kind of programme run by the Guides and vice versa. Some may wish to join both organisations. Child safety The Scout Association has strict child safety rules in place. All adult members of the Spartans Explorer Scout Group, including leaders, assistant leaders, have extended DBS checks carried out before they are allowed to join us. Leaders are also interviewed by the Axe District Scout Association before they can begin training for their warrant. No adult is ever allowed to be on their own with an Explorer, Our own fully stocked first aid kit is always available, we have several leaders/assistant leaders who hold first aid certificates, one of them is always present. If we take the Explorers out of the hall our first aid kit goes too.
