About Us
Spartans are the youngest Explorer Unit in the scouting district of Axe, we officially opened in February 2011 at Sandford Scout Hut with the investiture of the founding 6 members of the Unit. After 2 years of increasing in numbers, we had to make the decision to move huts as we could no longer all fit into Sandford Scout Hut, therefore, we now currently meet on Monday evenings at Banwell Scout Hut HQ, Bottom of Banwell Car Park, West Street, Banwell at 7.30pm - 9.30pm. We are open to male and females between the age of 14 and 18.
As an Explorer Scout, you will get the chance to work with other Explorer Scouts within the District, not just with our Unit. By doing this, you will get the chance to do many more activities, not just the ones our Unit organises.
Young Leaders Scheme
Of immense value are the leadership skills and experience gained in taking real responsibility for running activities with younger people. The Unit is linked with Banwell, Congresbury, Sandford and Winscombe Scout Groups whose success is driven by a large number of young people in key leadership roles. Young Leaders are supported with a training programme tailor-made for their role and their own personal development.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
Every member of our unit is encouraged to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. This will allow the you to take part in an expedition, help in the community, take up a sport and try a new skill. This is a nationally recognised award scheme. We run this in conjunction with the Scout Association's own awards.
